The Only Words

February 24, 2010

I’m sorry that I say sorry
More than anyone else you know
I’m wondering if you’ve ever
Really forgived me

My hands are calloused from clasping
For all this time I’ve been praying

That maybe
There’s something more
That I can give to you

That maybe
There’s another way
To say I’m sorry

How do you converse with someone
Who communicates with apologies
How do you bare the thought
That he, who speaks, is quarantined

And you exalt
While I’m at fault

So I say
As I fail

The only words I know
I’m sorry

Will you please accept the fact that
The man in front of you is more
Than just a man who gave his life
He’s sorry than he’ll ever be

When the brute falters, he begs
Will you accept him, his bended legs

Or maybe
You can walk away
From his broken soul

Or maybe
You can end him
Spare his sorry

How do you converse with someone
Who communicates with apologies
How do you bare the thought
That he, who speaks, is quarantined

And you exalt
While I’m at fault

So I say
As I fail

The only words I know
I’m sorry

I say
We all say
When we’re about to jump off the deep end

I say
We all say
When we’re about to lose the gift we love
We stare the sun and look above
The prize that we shoved away

How do you converse with someone
Who communicates with apologies
How do you bare the thought
That he, who speaks, is quarantined

And you exalt
While I’m at fault

So I say
As I fail

The only words I know
